Spring into Wellness: Supporting Employee Wellbeing

Fostering a mentally and physically healthy workforce can bring a host of benefits to your organisation, from creating a positive workplace culture to reducing absenteeism. As we step into Spring and start to enjoy longer days and better weather, it’s the perfect time to encourage your team to get involved through employee wellbeing initiatives and sharing ideas to inspire in the months ahead.
Placing a renewed focus on employee wellbeing during this seasonal shift can help keep teams motivated, energised and connected – here at Mango, we’re gearing up for ‘Mango Mindful May’! Check out some of our ideas and tips for positively engaging staff and empowering your teams to look after their mental and physical health, both at work and at home.
Seasonal Reset
Spring is a natural time for renewal and refreshed routines. With longer days and better weather, it becomes easier to set new habits and make small changes that support wellbeing. Science shows the benefits of increased daylight on mood and productivity, making this season ideal for encouraging simple daily practices such as creating a morning routine, having your coffee or breakfast outside, stepping onto your balcony or back doorstep for fresh air, walking to work, or simply getting outside during breaks.
May is National Walking Month, offering a perfect opportunity to kick‑start activities and build momentum. You could run competitions or challenges where employees track their activity, with prizes for those who cover the most miles throughout the month. Introduce a weekly team “lunch walk,” or encourage staff to take up new hobbies or classes and share their progress. Even small steps can create a sense of motivation, connection and improved wellbeing.

Mental Spring Clean
As well as exercise, there are a host of self‑care strategies that can help us all “declutter” mentally. Sharing bitesize tips on a different topic each week can encourage employees to explore what works best for them – whether that’s meditation, breathwork, journaling, mindfulness, or something else entirely. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, and giving people a variety of tools helps them discover what supports their wellbeing most effectively.
Our physical surroundings contribute to how we feel more than we often realise. Encouraging a collective spring tidy-up of desks or digital files can be a quick, easy way to get your brain engaged, reset your space, and create a more refreshing work environment – an approach that naturally reinforces wellbeing.

Connect with Nature and Others
Nature is an important need for many of us and plays a vital role in keeping us emotionally, psychologically and physically healthy. Research shows that not just visiting but also noticing nature is key to maximising its benefits. Whether it’s spending time in local parks, gardening, or simply taking intentional moments in green spaces, connecting with nature can help us feel more present and calm while supporting overall wellbeing.
One simple but fun idea to encourage this is the recent “Colour Hunt” photo challenge. You can turn this social media trend into a workplace activity by e.g. assigning your teams specific colours each week and challenging them to take photos of things in nature or outdoors that match those colours during their walks. At the end of the challenge, create a collage of the images to share and invite everyone to vote for the best. It’s a light-hearted and creative way to get employees outdoors while also strengthening team bonds.

Spring into Action – Big or Small
Choosing just one new habit or commitment (big or small) can make add up to make a meaningful difference over time. The mental lift that comes with this new season offers a great opportunity to boost employee wellbeing and try something new together. Whether you increase your steps each week as a team, spend more time outdoors or schedule moments of calm and quiet, by encouraging small, positive steps, organisations can help create lasting changes that support healthier, happier teams.
